The strain showed 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 98.7 % to \u003cjats:italic\u003eCandidatus\u003c/jats:italic\u003e Aquiluna rubra and of 96.6 and 96.7 % to the two validly described species of the genus \u003cjats:italic\u003e\n                     \u003cjats:named-content content-type=\"genus\"\u003e\n                        \u003cjats:ext-link xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\" ext-link-type=\"uri\" xlink:href=\"http://doi.org/10.1601/nm.14717\" xlink:type=\"simple\"\u003eRhodoluna\u003c/jats:ext-link\u003e\n                     \u003c/jats:named-content\u003e\n                  \u003c/jats:italic\u003e. Phylogenetic reconstructions based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and genome-based on amino acid sequences of 118 single copy genes referred strain 15G-AUS-rot\u003cjats:sup\u003eT\u003c/jats:sup\u003e to the family \u003cjats:italic\u003e\n                     \u003cjats:named-content content-type=\"family\"\u003e\n                        \u003cjats:ext-link xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\" ext-link-type=\"uri\" xlink:href=\"http://doi.org/10.1601/nm.6033\" xlink:type=\"simple\"\u003eMicrobacteriaceae\u003c/jats:ext-link\u003e\n                     \u003c/jats:named-content\u003e\n                  \u003c/jats:italic\u003e and therein to the so-called subcluster Luna-1. The genome-based phylogenetic tree showed that the new strain represents a putative new genus. Cultures of strain 15G-AUS-rot\u003cjats:sup\u003eT\u003c/jats:sup\u003e were light red pigmented and comprised very small, rod-shaped cells. They metabolized a broad variety of substrates. Major fatty acids (\u0026gt;10 %) of cells were iso-C\u003cjats:sub\u003e16 : 0\u003c/jats:sub\u003e, antiso-C\u003cjats:sub\u003e15 : 0\u003c/jats:sub\u003e and iso-C\u003cjats:sub\u003e14 : 0\u003c/jats:sub\u003e. The major respiratory quinone was MK-11 and a minor component was MK-10. The peptidoglycan structure belonged to an unusual B type. The closed genome sequence of the strain was very small (1.4 Mbp) and had a DNA G+C content of 54.8 mol%. An interesting feature was the presence of genes putatively encoding the complete light-driven proton pumping actinorhodopsin/retinal system, which were located at three different positions of the genome.
